Activision and FromSoftware have provided us some fresh information on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The game may be somewhat of a black sheep among the developer's other action titles, but it's still managed to sell more than 5 million copies since launch, according to a new press release. More exciting, though, is that the game is set to receive a major update. The title will get a number of interesting new features later this year, and they may be enough to entice players to jump back in.
First and foremost, this update grants the ability to battle bosses you've previously defeated. Accessible via Sculptor's Idols, Reflections of Strength are single fights against any adversary you've already bested, while Gauntlets of Strength pit you against a string of bosses in a row. It's essentially Boss Rush mode, which will certainly be a challenge.
Next up, FromSoft is adding three unlockable cosmetic skins to the game. You can earn one of these new outfits by simply beating the game, while the other two are tied to the aforementioned Gauntlets.
Lastly, the update will bring some limited online functionality to Sekiro. Remnants are recordings of your actions -- up to 30 seconds long -- that you can send to other players, with the option to add a message. "Share strategies and hints via network to broaden the scope of play," reads the official description.
What's more, all this new stuff will be added to the game for free. It won't arrive until 29th October, but if you're a fan of this tough shinobi action title, it sounds like this will be worth the wait. What do you think of these incoming additions? Will you hop back into Sekiro to try these new features out? Work on your timing in the comments section below.

I’m just waiting for someone to ask for easy mode.
@Akurusu Yes please.
This is great, I wish they release a DLC but this is fine for now I guess? best action samurai/japanese theme game imo n_n.
Black sheep? LMAO. That’s some way to refer to a GOTY Winner.
I called it a black sheep because it's the FromSoft action game most unlike the others, not because I think it's bad. I love Sekiro!
Yeah it's certainly different to the Souls games and Bloodborne comparatively.
Sekiro's still a great though. Not sure this kind of update is likely to draw me back to it but I would like to go back and platinum it at some point.
WHERE IS ELDEN RING MIYAZAKI
@Akurusu to be honest I could do with an easy mode I die constantly but for me it would ruin the game. The challenge is part of the fun in my opinion.
I imagine this update is partly because of the success of Ghost of Tshushima and maybe they hope people will buy Sekiro. I also hope more people play Sekiro it's a fantastic game.
What an amazing new out of nowhere.
Love to be able to rematch bosses since Sekiro lacks SunBro/League covenant mechanic.
And 5M on 1.5 years is very good for this type of game.
This was my favorite game of 2019. I'll gladly take any excuse to play more of it.
This smacks of “We need to appease the fan base because Elden Ring is way behind schedule”. Still, could be a welcome addition for some.
I will return to Sekiro after I get a Series X.
The game runs at a native 1800p with an unlocked framerate (running between the upper 30s - upper 40s) on Xbox One X. I would be interested to see if the game runs at a locked 60fps on Series X.
Serious question: did Sony ever confirm that the PS5 would have some sort of a Boost Mode with the caveat that games may not run as intended (as they did with the PS4 Pro)? I know it will run PS4/Pro hardware profiles, but I don't remember if a Boost Mode was ever mentioned.
Love this game...well loved it up untill that massive ***** gorilla showed up and molested me over and over again and again...had to accept that i probably wont ever beat him..*****..
Nice. We'll see lots of youtube vids by korean gamers beating gauntlet on NG+7 with no damage on guitar hero controller
Hi there fellow gamers. Sekiro was one of my favourites last year, and I always thought that the game absolutely needed a Boss rush mode.
Sekiro has some of the best Boss battles in an hack and slash game and I can´t wait to fight some of them again. It is basicaly just an excuse to play the game again after I platinumed.
And with new fashion to boot? I´m all in for another go. Cheers, stay safe and happy gaming to us all
I'm just glad we are able to get new outfits. That's something I've loved in Bloodborne, so I can't wait to finally do it in this game. I wished they would have implemented this upon its release but better late than never. Lol.
@Northern_munkey Yeah this game is crazy hard. Those apes suck. I was unable to beat The Owl, and then never went back. And I’ve finished all the From games! This is a great excuse to get back on the Wolf though, and try to finish for those costumes. And I’m hoping the backbutton attachment gives me an edge this time!
The only FromSoftware game I haven't Platinumed. Heck I can't even beat the last boss
Having a difficulty setting would be handy in future updates
They forgot normal difficulty mode
@Ear_wiG as soon as i am done with ghost of tsushima i am going to attempt sekiro again..still have to finish off ac odyssey as well..
The 'Remnants' feature is interesting, could be a sneak preview of the sort of things we see being done next gen
@supergurr I could do with an easy mode too, not gonna lie. As much as I love challenges and FS games, I also like having nice things. I’d prefer if they didn’t “break”... I quit the game because I couldn’t beat the bull with burning hay attached to it 😅
Oh man, I thought they would never add anything to Sekiro. I haven't played it since I obtained the Platinum trophy, but I'll do another run once this is released.
@Claude Black sheep is a way to say that someone or something is different from the others, or that it stands out from the rest. Being a GOTY actually fits that description.
@Claude wtf are they even on about. Black sheep is such a mischaracterisation.
Poor writing. Very, very poor.
